This was a great trip - we left on Saturday - the original plan was to trailer 3 bikes and then switch out bikes/riders
so that no one would get too tired riding as the trailer was not big enough to hold all four bikes. Jerry tried
to load his bike as the third bike in the trailer and it just didn't fit very well, after a bit of discussion, "let's just
ride" took the vote. Steve and Jerry rode all the way to Littleton, Co. that was about 565 miles (not an iron butt ride
but it sure felt like it should qualify). A couple of days of riding and then off to Marble. Several more days of riding
in western Colorado and then off we headed for the bike rally near Durango - we camped in the Navajo National Park and had
2 more get days of rides. We only got rained on a couple of times but that was always about 10,000 feet and I know there
were ice pellets falling for a short time. Except for the detours down some washboard dirt roads (thanks Steve) and
a high mountain pass the roads were great. The only two incidents were, Steve went onto the reserve tank just before
getting to Salina on the way down and the bike started smoking and running poorly, after filling up Steve started up Yogi
and gas started running out of the air cleaner all over the engine - we tapped on the carborator and got the float unstuck,
after the air cleaner dried out Yogi ran great.
Dave, the skid kid, when his leather jacket that was strapped on the back of the bike came loose, the jacket
which was quite fond of Dave decided that it did not want to be lost on the road, so it sucked itself up underneath the fender
and locked up the back wheel - 100 feet of wild skid and Dave ended up still on 2 wheels just off the road, and his leather
jacket actually still looks pretty good too.
